#9: A Bottle of White (Breast Milk, not Bordeaux)

When you have a kid, baby bottles take precedence over wine glasses, and I have the photo evidence to prove it.

Billy Joel may have sang "A bottle of red, a bottle of white / It all depends upon your appetite", but when you have a kid, it's all white, all the time.  And the white I'm referring to here is breast milk.

Even before Steph started pumping, our wine glasses had been relegated to back-of-the-cabinet status in favor of bottles, nipples, and other breastfeeding paraphernalia.  Considering how much we love wine, this could be considered impractical -- or downright crazy.

On our honeymoon, we stayed at an awesome bed-n-breakfast in Napa and spent several days touring and tasting; we even brought 15 bottles of wine home with us.  And while it was less of a focus during our trip to Italy last summer, we booked a private tour of a Tuscan vineyard -- and, of course, drank plenty of wine with our meals.

But parenthood reshuffles priorities, and we've had little time for wine since A. was born.  Steph, in fact, has only drank half a beer in six-plus weeks -- despite it being perfectly acceptable to drink occasionally while nursing.  And while I haven't been quite that dry, I too have cut back significantly.

The thing is, we really don't need to drink; a beautiful newborn is intoxicating enough.  Besides, we'll have plenty of time reasons to drink by the time A. is a teenager!  Judging by how quickly the past month flew by, that's not too far off.

  1. I share your love of wine. We are down to our last bottle of Napa valley wine when we went on our honeymoon.

I recommend finding a light, fruity, $5-10 bottle and downing it in between the 6-9pm feedings- possibly when steff isn't looking as she cant pump & drink.

  2. Ah, I remember drinking. I used to speak all sorts of illegible nonsense to get girls to talk to me. Now I speak all sorts of illegible nonsense to get a little baby to smile at me.
